AMD brings their Smart Access Memory to Ryzen 3000 series processors

Good news for everyone on last-gen processors as AMD is bringing their Smart Access Memory to their 3000 series lineup.

Back when AMD announced their SAM tech, I wondered how long it would take for their competitors to force them into this very situation. It didn’t take that long, just a few months. A few months have felt like a long year with everything going on in the world right now.

So that’s the good news, AMD unlocks its SAM to last generation CPUs. The bad news is that most of us, myself included, built our 3000 series PC on b450 and x470 motherboards, and AMD only unlocked it for the last-gen motherboards. Also, a current-generation GPU from AMD is needed, which is near impossible to find. I have yet to see any in stock here in Canada.

If you did build your PC using a 3000 series CPU and one of the 500 series motherboards and were lucky enough to snag one of the 6000 series GPUs, you will be able to see up to a 16% performance uplift in certain titles, according to AMD.
