AMD drops the full version of their Hangar 21 Technology Demo

AMD flexing some real muscle here.

What’s the skinny? A couple of days ago, AMD dropped a teaser video giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. Today is the day we find out what it is AMD has in store for us.

The four-minute and 24-second video demonstrates what can be achieved with the power of RDNA2, FidelityFX, and DirectX12 Ultimate. The video is indeed impressive, with its dynamic area lights, volumetric lights, and real-time global illumination that help set the mood and tone, making for a more immersive experience.

The video also shows off FidelityFX ambient occlusion, which simulates ambient lights, so things like shadows in corners look more realistic. The physically-based material and shading were very impressive and made the protagonist’s armor suit look very realistic. The FidelityFX screen space reflections were also impressive.

AMD also showed off their DXR Ray-Traced reflections, Which AMD says is more accurate and can use information not seen on the screen to produce these accurate reflections. They also gave us a look at Ray-Traced shadows, depth of field, and a few other cool tidbits.

AMD is flexing some real muscle here, and it will be interesting to see what they can do now that they are more established and have some serious R&D funds.
