Assassin’s Creed Valhalla first impressions

Immerse yourself in the world of Valhalla as a Viking assassin.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was released on November 10, 2020, and it seems everyone is now a Viking as this latest release in the AC franchise has doubled launch day sales of AC Origins.

There is a lot here to like about Ubisoft’s newest member of the AC franchise. The world they have created is beautiful and immersive. The storyline so far is amazing; I love the progression. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I will say I was immediately hooked and cannot wait for my next gaming session to continue my journey as a Viking.

Weapons and armor

The armor is beautiful in AC Valhalla, and it gets even better looking as you upgrade it. You will want to explore the Valhalla world to find the necessary upgrade components for the armor, as this will improve its stats along with the visual improvements.

If you are wearing a matching set of armor they will give your character bonuses. What bonus you receive will depend on the armor set you are wearing.

Weapons upgrade the same as armor in AC Valhalla, you will start off with an axe but along the way, you will find different types, such as an iron star, war hammer, a two-handed axe, and more.

Test system specs and FPS results

AC Valhalla benchmark results

As you can see in the photo above, my PC averaged 70 FPS during the built-in benchmark. That is using Ultra High preset settings. You can easily gain a few more FPS without sacrificing visual quality by dropping the preset graphics settings down to Very high or even high if you need a few more FPS. Medium and low-quality preset settings are where you really start to notice the loss of visual quality.

I have gamed on a potato before and had a lot of fun doing it, so don’t get to bogged down in FPS and graphic settings, just have fun. I only included these results to give people with similar hardware an idea of what to expect.

The game is able to take advantage of lots of cores so if you have a modern CPU with a number of processing cores, this game will put them to work.
