Blizzards system requirements for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, recommends an SSD

Even the minimum requirements urge you to use an SSD.

What’s the skinny? Blizzard is releasing its latest expansion, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, on October 27, 2020 and for the first time in the games long history, they’re recommending you use an SSD.

The minimum requirements are stating that you can still use an HDD but that the player experience maybe impacted. Personally I don’t think this is going to be an issue for most WoW players. I would assume that if you play WoW, it’s likely your main game and you already have it squeezed onto your main drive which is likely already an SSD. I could be wrong, but hey if I’m wrong then maybe this is the motivation people who haven’t switched to an SSD as their main drive, to do so now.

This should be a pretty decent time to make that upgrade if needed, as SSD and ram prices are expected to come down a bit in the coming weeks and months. Also along with NVIDIA’s launch of the 30 series cards yesterday came the announcement that they were going to include support for RTX IO with the launch of the new cards. This should mean that the need to have fast SSD’s in your gaming rig is only going to grow in the coming years.

Non the less it’s interesting that Blizzard finally made the decision to push for SSD storage. It’s long been known that there’s a noticeable benefit to using an SSD for open world MMO, WoW type games.
