What’s the skinny? Earlier today, AMD announced their Threadripper Pro CPU lineup that will be featured in Lenovo’s new ThinkStation P620.
The P620 ThinkStation from Lenovo will come equipped with one of AMD’s Threadripper Pro CPU’s, up to 4 middle of the road NVIDIA Quadro GPU’s or 2 ultra high end NVIDIA Quadro GPU’s. The Threadripper Pro CPU’s have up to 64 cores and 128 threads, to tear up your workloads. They also support Up to 2TB ECC UDIMM, RDIMM, LRDIMM. This is a huge improvement over the standard Threadripper and is arguably one of it’s few weaknesses. Also on the standard Threadripper, support for ECC memory was left up to the motherboard vendors who may have played it fast and loose with their support.
AMD said in their press release that “AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO Processors are purpose-built to set the new industry standard for professional workstation compute performance,” said Saeid Moshkelani, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Client business unit. “The extreme performance, high core counts and bandwidth of AMD Ryzen Threadripper Processors are now available with AMD PRO technology features including seamless manageability and unique built-in data protection5. Even the most demanding professional environment is addressed with the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO line-up, from artists and creators developing breathtaking visual effects, to architects and engineers working with large datasets and complex visualizations, all brought to life on the most advanced professional workstation platform in the world6.
